blow all you want
your hot breath’s not cooling down this
fresh cup of coffee
molten brown
and, yeah, these are your only grounds
looks like you didn’t get much sleep
were you waiting on the beep that says get going?
hey kid, it looks like you’re still growing
take a sip, get a grip
i see you’re running with arms outstretched
you’ve just awoken and already you’re hoping
that you’re love will catch
it will catch a girl
with an open heart
just like yours
maybe one who gives
rock and roll history tours
she gives tours
she gives tours
(yeah)
sure, your dream is free
but as your mind goes absentee
your coffee goes cold
and suddenly you’re old
and it’s all too bitter to taste
so you burn your dreams with your toast
breathe in this right here and now roast
believe it or not, everything you’ve got
It’s all at the bottom of this hot
It’s all at the bottom of this hot
It’s all at the bottom of
this
hot

late on a lazy evening in June
i was home to greenview avenue too soon
and rather than retire to my dim apartment
i snuck round the back to a secret compartment
where you kept
an extra key
for me
so up
the wooden stairs I ascended
with a key in my hand
in the front jacket pocket of
your uncle’s old windbreaker
so i sidestepped the mounds of birdshit and shovel
and i entered your place with no sign of struggle
called down your halls though no one was home
i could tell that you had just left
but I was alone
alone
just so alone
always alone
just so alone
always alone
i climbed up the roof and
i sucked down a snoot and
it sparked a flame inside my brain
i started to view
you and me in the clouds
wandering through the crowds
of dragon, snakes, and poison lakes, and magical shrouds
If you’d spend some time
up in the clouds i’m sure you’d find
that the view
from rosa’s place is nice
hey but
she doesn’t have a brain for that
and she’s locked it in an air proof vat
and it can never ever see the sun
yet she shows it to everyone
no, it doesn’t add up
at least not to me
i guess its a difference
in our realities
(hey hey hey)

your worry proves your vanity
life unchanging, life unchanging
that's insanity
your worry proves your vanity
life unchanging, life unchanging
that's insanity
Oh
your worry proves your vanity
and life unchanging that's insanity
but see, you're drowning me in empathy
i said you're drowning me
you're drowning me

all the familiar fears
03:54
|
|||
let me try to explain
well half the time i’m worrying over things
and that’s half the time i’ll ever spend
on this earth
and half of that is half as much as
half as much as you deserve
from me
and yet that’s all I can offer
right now
right now
lately, i’ve been doing my best to
convince myself I’m
doing my best
with the most of my time
yet when an idle smile
rests on my child face
i admit It feels out of place
and I fear
fear I’m deluding myself
with things
that just feel nice
and i know they say it’s so important to
FOLLOW YOUR OWN LIGHT
or whatever that means
but these damn screens, man
i let them keep me up at night
it’s either that or a single flame
from a plastic cask of butane
ejected by my own thumb
that leaves me always
leaves me wandering, dumb, dumb
leaves me wandering dumb
no wind
no stars
no map
and no crew
yeah, i'm feeling lost at sea
but you can't see me no
you’re too preoccupied
building up your walls with no windows
in your castle on the shore
that you’ve built for you and me
and not a soul more
and all the familiar fears they won’t
say goodbye, bye
even when you look me in my eye
and tell me you love me
this shouldn’t come as a surprise...
(alright, hey)
no...
no wind, no stars, no map, and no crew
it’s half as much as
doing my best
following my
feeling lost at sea

snooze
02:24
|
|||
your cards were stacked
luggage been packed
man those dice were loaded
on the train to baltimore
you pulled the fire alarm
and no one noticed
at all
no one noticed at all
and it’s gonna be a long
quiet ride
when you’re sitting
on the wrong side
of yourself
when you’re sinking
and you can’t hold on to your health
you might as well
hit the snooze
and ditch the news
call off the sparks that keep this train moving
you can
go on home
where you’re not alone
WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP
i gotta tell you bout a new vibration

make a sound
03:31
|
|||
take a whole step
fight the urge to take two back
butterflies may swarm
ace an aerial attack
but don’t you mind their buffeting
both your eyes are already black
and they can’t take what you lack
i'm saving pennies burning bills
and i seem to be making sense
i’m bursting at the seams
but that doesn’t pay the rent
count my blessings and my scars
they look more the same each day
count the folks who die in cars
living in a rain delay
in a rain delay
still you say
rhymes, riddles, and parables
pour from your mouth
but they all just sound so foreign
like you’re forcing fables out
and i wonder what you would sound like
if you spoke without your doubt
if you opened up your heart
and you made a sound
make a sound
rhymes, riddles, and parables
pour from your mouth
but they all just sound so foreign
like you’re forcing fables out
and i wonder what you would sound like
if you spoke without your doubt
if you opened up your heart
and you made a sound
c'mon and make a sound
(yeah)
it’s the chirp of birds in chorus
fuck our phones answering for us
let the trees talk in the forest
just listen and don’t force it
cause then you’ll forfeit
your chance
to be heard

woke up on the floor again
turntable looming above my head
a tapestry floating like the night sky
and a rain coming down outside
at least my back's not stiff
you pour me a cup
you give me a lift
i think that's what they call companionship
drove into town again
brought a sleeping bag for my bed
boy the trees on poplar look nice
would it be alright if i stayed the night?
and i'm hungry like a kid
you make me a plate
you give me a lift
i think that's what they call companionship
worn out and sprawled again
sticky mickey is looming over my head
fan blades are spinning out of time
we could stay here just fine
but damn my back is stiff
you roll me a spliff
you give me a lift
i think that's what they call companionship
oh
